”The theme of the work is the idea that we must balance the turbulent unexpected conflicts and challenges that life brings our way by cultivating an inner strength and stability, an inner calm.  The swirling orb that hovers over the monk, as though waiting to swallow him, represent the chaos of unexpected changes and events in our lives. The monk gazes inward at the depths of his own being.  By regularly contacting the deep and unchanging essence that is our fundamental nature, the monk finds an inner calm that allows him to weather the difficulties of being alive.” - Jeffrey Johnson
